On Friday, July 27th
my dad took my mom to the emergency room with stomach pain which was an
unusually symptom of her cancer even after 38 paracentesis. She physically was incapable of transporting
herself from the front seat of the car to her wheel chair. She was visibly ailing and almost seemed like
she was mentally indisposed. After
several tests she was given fluid for dehydration and admitted with failing
kidneys. Within 12 hours we went from
hope to despair we went from one Oncologist sending her home to another giving
her 1 – 7 days to live and that anyone who wanted to see her should do so. Within 12 hours my mother went from being
treated to being made comfortable.
Within hours
visitors packed the hospital to see my mother and support my family. Within the
first 3 days of the news my mom had over 150 visitors. My mother was lucid and spoke to each
visitor, shared memories and joked with many.
She was at peace with what was now inevitable and showed no signs of
fear. We shared love, strength and tears
knowing that our days were numbered.
